The MultiStudio QC Suite is a group of tools which collect and analyse navigation, performance and seismic attributes. The suite has been developed to help marine seismic acquisition QCs assess the quality of navigation, performance and seismic attributes. The primary objective is to ensure the acquisition crew obtain optimum performance from the survey equipment and ensure that the data files produced (P1, P2, SPS etc) are of satisfactory quality, meeting industry standards and client requirements.

As acquisition technology has advanced it has become desirable to analyse attributes which would not normally be considered as related to positioning (3D or 4D) along with the normal positioning information. MultiStudio provides visualisation and analysis tools to monitor many aspects of the acquisition process.

Many tools within the MultiStudio QC Suite would not usually be encountered in a single QC package e.g. we can continually monitor vessel position between acquisition lines (offline data); correlate attributes such as vessel speed, crab and streamer/source towing attributes to attributes such as near-field hydrophones or streamer channel noise. The list is extensive.

With the evolution of modern seismic techniques such as 4 Component Ocean Bottom Seismic (4C OBC/OBS) and Complex Time Lapse (4D) surveys the MultiStudio suite has also evolved with new tools specifically developed for OBC/OBS and 4D techniques.

Throughout the development of the MultiStudio QC Suite, our ethos has been to avoid duplicating as far as possible processes and QC functions which the acquisition contractor is performing adequately and instead examine data and attributes which are often not covered by other QC systems or processes.

When used during the acquisition stage of a project MultiStudio collects its data from many varied sources such as UKOOA P2, P1, SPS, Navigation system logs and databases including a real-time collection option for sampling navigation and performance attributes directly from survey equipment. The collected data is analysed and exported into our own database, which all the suite tools access. During acquisition this database can be archived shore side (vessel communication allowing) giving a quick response to Client or QC representative requests. In our experience it is not unusual for certain attributes to become of interest only after post acquisition examination of the seismic data.

MultiStudio is extremely versatile and at EPI we are accomplished at performing ‘one-off’ tasks to meet a Client's specific requirement. Since MultiStudio’s first commercial deployment in 1991 we have performed many such tasks and this has given us an extensive library of routines to call on. As such no other software suite is able to offer such a flexible or comprehensive approach to QC.

The MultiStudio QC Suite tools provide multiple ways of examining the database, many of these are graphical in nature and some of the types of plot are shown below:

Time Series | Overlaid Time Series | Multi Axis Correlated Time Series

Multi-Axis Time Series | Correlated Time Series | Offsets Chart

Statistical Charts | Specialist Plots | Tides, Currents and Streamer Feather Plots

Bathymetry | Spatial / Aerial Plots

ShotPLOT | Track Plots | Closest Point of Approach (CPA)

Due to complexity of the subject it is not possible to fully convey the full versatility and possibilities of the MultiStudio QC Suite in a printed document; however, we hope the information provided here interests you sufficiently to arrange a demonstration.
